Updates
6:56am – I’ve got tea and I’m starting with the Walking Dead to get some pages in and because I’m sort of ready to see whatever big thing I’ve been avoiding for the last few months.
8:05am – Finished my first title and moving on to something else. Need more tea
8:40am – Did some cheering, now I’m going to read a children’s book and maybe move on to the next Walking Dead title.
10:15am – Finished two more titles. Starting to drag a little. Definitely going to need a nap today.
11:00am – Listening to Voyager and doing a little cheering.
12:28pm – Maybe the best idea I’ve had so far, listening to a book while cheering. Made it 40 pages further into Voyager and got quite a bit of cheering done. Had a late breakfast/early lunch and now I think I’ll try another book since I reached a good stopping point in Voyager.
4:22pm – Started a SURPRISE book that wasn’t on the stack originally — The Good Girl by Mary Kubica. Got a little ways into that before deciding I wanted to get a nap in before evening rolled around. I feel much better for it, but woke up feeling a little sick so I think I’m okay. Updating totals and doing a little cheering before I get back into another book.
6:20pm – Took some time to cheer, then turned Voyager back on and headed to the kitchen to start the Barefoot Contessa’s rosemary white bean soup. Now the house smells wonderful and I have to wait another 30 minutes for this soup to simmer. Voyager is getting good and I’m having a hard time putting it down. I know I’ll start reading something else soon, because there’s no way I’m finishing this one before the night is over and I’d like to get a least one more title finished.
6:53pm – I added the mid-event survey (below) and now I need to run this soup through the blender. Dinner time
9:07pm – Had a nice dinner and continued listening to Voyager. Got so wrapped up in it I almost forgot that I intended to take a break to watch Outlander. Going to check out things on social media and then listen to more of the book in the tub.
10:55pm – Bath was nice. Time for more cheering!
12:02am – Whoa! It’s midnight. Cool. I have cheered for everyone on my list and I’ve been listening to Voyager throughout all that. I think it’s time to turn that off and pick up a book of poetry.
1:00am – Finished Mary Oliver’s A Thousand Mornings. Good. Not my favorite, but it was a good read.
7:43am – Decided to pack things up a little after 2am. I continued reading until I could no longer hold my eyes open and I’ve added those pages to my totals above. Good readathon! I met my goals pretty early on, cheered for everyone on my Team Mr. Popper list, and had a great time.
Mini-Challenges
Opening Meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Norman, OK
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I know I’ll enjoy reading more of Voyager and the Mary Oliver poems are a bright spot in that stack as well.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I didn’t plan snacks so much as meals this time around and tonight for dinner I’m having a white bean and rosemary soup that I cannot wait to try.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! After 11 or 12 of these I am running out of things to say! Can I go back and recycle the little piece of trivia about Mary Boleyn being my 15th-great-grandmother?
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? Less caffeine. I feel like I’m having trouble with it staying in my system too long and just making me feel ill.
Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? Voyager
2. How many books have you read so far? 3
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? The Mary Oliver poems.
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I’ve taken planned breaks. No major interruptions.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I’ve picked very good books so far!
